The Executive Diploma in Community Development is a comprehensive career development program designed for those interested in further developing and formalizing their current skills to adapt themselves, and their organizations to an ever-changing and complex environment.

Overview

The Executive Diploma in Community Development will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and skills required for leadership in the community sector. You will learn to work in partnership with communities to build their capacity, resilience and self-determination.

You’ll gain the tools to educate the public through programs on health advocacy and community consultation. You’ll develop specific community development skills as well as broad skills for community services work, such as:

advocacy
facilitation
needs assessment
empowerment.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

Understand the systems that drive population health
Use critical thinking to characterize population health and answer public health questions
Describe the mission, historical context, values, and ethical principles of public health
Translate knowledge into actions that improve population health
Engage and partner effectively with multiple disciplines, sectors, and communities to promote health
Communicate effectively about public health topics with diverse audiences
Understand the principles of effective leadership, administration, and funding in public health

To be awarded the Executive Diploma in Community Development you must satisfactorily complete all written contributions. Successful students will receive an Executive Diploma. A transcript detailing the course will be issued to successful students. The Executive Diploma provides a proven pathway to the AIES Mini Master of Community Development.

Curriculum

The Executive Diploma in Community Development is delivered at AIES approved centers over the course of 6 months (each level). The Executive Diploma has a compact structure and consists of three levels.
