Introduction to Global Health

This course provides an overview of the key issues, challenges, and strategies related to health on a global scale. This course covers the social, economic, environmental, and political factors that affect health outcomes across different countries and populations. Students will explore topics such as infectious and chronic diseases, health disparities, healthcare access, and the impact of globalization on health. The course emphasizes the role of international organizations, governments, and public health systems in addressing global health challenges and improving health equity.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understanding Global Health Concepts: Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts in global health, including health determinants, global disease burden, and the social and economic factors that influence health disparities.
• Exploring Global Health Challenges: Learn about major global health issues such as infectious diseases (e.g., HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis), chronic diseases, maternal and child health, malnutrition, and the impact of climate change on health.
• Analyzing Health Systems and Policies: Develop skills in analyzing health systems and policies around the world, including how healthcare delivery, access, and financing vary across countries and affect population health outcomes.
• Global Health Interventions and Solutions: Gain the ability to evaluate and propose effective global health interventions, including public health campaigns, disease prevention programs, and international collaborations aimed at improving health equity and addressing pressing global health concerns.
