Infection Control for Health Care Professionals

This course provides essential knowledge and practices for preventing and controlling infections in healthcare settings. This course covers topics such as the chain of infection, standard precautions, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), and the management of infectious diseases. Students will learn about regulatory requirements, infection surveillance, and the role of healthcare professionals in reducing the spread of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The course emphasizes the implementation of evidence-based infection control protocols to ensure the safety of patients, healthcare workers, and the public.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understanding the Principles of Infection Control: Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the chain of infection, how infections spread, and the principles of breaking that chain to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
• Implementing Standard Precautions and PPE Use: Learn how to apply standard precautions, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe handling of sharps, to minimize infection risks.
• Infection Surveillance and Reporting: Gain skills in infection surveillance, monitoring infection rates, and reporting infections in compliance with healthcare regulations and institutional policies.
• Managing Infectious Disease Outbreaks: Develop the ability to respond effectively to infectious disease outbreaks in healthcare settings, including isolation protocols, disinfection procedures, and educating staff and patients on prevention measures.
