Educational Technology

This course introduces students to the use of technology in early childhood education to enhance teaching and learning experiences. This course covers the integration of digital tools, interactive media, and educational software into early learning environments, focusing on developmentally appropriate practices. Students will explore how technology can support cognitive, social, and emotional development in young children, as well as how to balance screen time with other learning activities. Through hands-on activities and projects, students will gain the skills to effectively incorporate technology into the early childhood curriculum while promoting creativity and collaboration.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understanding Educational Technology in ECE: Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of technology in early childhood education, including its benefits and challenges in promoting development.
• Integrating Technology into the Curriculum: Learn how to effectively integrate digital tools, apps, and interactive media into early childhood learning environments, ensuring they are age-appropriate and aligned with learning objectives.
• Using Technology for Developmental Support: Develop skills in using technology to support children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development, while balancing tech-based activities with hands-on, experiential learning.
• Evaluating Educational Technology Tools: Gain the ability to critically evaluate educational software, apps, and digital tools for their effectiveness, safety, and alignment with developmental best practices in early childhood education.

These outcomes aim to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills to integrate educational technology into early childhood classrooms in a way that enhances learning while ensuring developmentally appropriate practices.
