Course Description

This is an advanced, integrative project designed for students to apply their public health expertise to address a significant public health issue in Malawi. Building on the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the Advanced Diploma program, students will conduct rigorous research, engage deeply with community stakeholders, and develop detailed interventions, programs, or policies to tackle complex health challenges. The project emphasizes leadership, strategic planning, program implementation, and evaluation. Students will present their final project through a comprehensive report and formal presentation to public health professionals and community leaders.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Strategic Application of Public Health Expertise: Students will demonstrate the ability to strategically apply advanced public health theories, frameworks, and methodologies to analyze and address pressing health challenges in Malawi.
  • Conducting Rigorous Research and Program Evaluation: Gain proficiency in designing and conducting in-depth research, including data analysis, health metrics evaluation, and impact assessments of existing public health programs in Malawi.
  • Designing and Implementing High-Impact Interventions: Learn to design, implement, and evaluate large-scale, evidence-based public health interventions or policy recommendations that target systemic health issues in Malawi, ensuring long-term sustainability and positive health outcomes.
  • Leadership in Public Health Communication and Advocacy: Develop advanced communication and leadership skills by effectively presenting complex research findings, health policies, or intervention strategies to stakeholders, including policymakers, health officials, and community groups.

This capstone project equips students with the necessary leadership, research, and implementation skills to take on high-level roles in public health. It emphasizes the design of strategic, evidence-based solutions tailored to Malawi’s unique public health challenges, preparing students for leadership in national or international public health initiatives.
