The Health and Safety Policy ensures that all AIES Approved Centers provide a safe, healthy, and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This policy outlines the key responsibilities and measures that centers must implement to maintain compliance with local health and safety regulations and protect the well-being of all individuals on the premises.

Key Principles:

  1. Commitment to Health and Safety
    Centers must prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of students, staff, and visitors by creating a safe learning and working environment. This includes:

    • Identifying and minimizing risks to health and safety.
    • Ensuring compliance with local health and safety laws and regulations.
    • Promoting a culture of safety and awareness across all aspects of center operations.
  2. Health and Safety Responsibilities
    Centers are responsible for implementing and enforcing health and safety policies that apply to all students, staff, and visitors. This includes:

    • Management Responsibilities: Ensuring that management actively monitors health and safety protocols and promotes safe practices at the center.
    • Instructor Responsibilities: Instructors are responsible for maintaining a safe environment in their classrooms, workshops, or labs and reporting any hazards.
    • Student Responsibilities: Students are expected to follow all safety instructions and report unsafe conditions or incidents to staff.
  3. Risk Assessments
    Centers must conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement measures to reduce or eliminate risks. This includes:

    • Routine Inspections: Performing routine inspections of classrooms, laboratories, and other facilities to identify risks such as faulty equipment, trip hazards, or fire safety issues.
    • Specialized Assessments: Conducting more detailed risk assessments for activities that involve chemicals, heavy machinery, or physical activities, ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place.
  4. Emergency Preparedness
    Centers must have a clear plan in place for managing emergencies, including fires, natural disasters, and medical emergencies. This plan should include:

    • Emergency Procedures: Clear and well-communicated procedures for evacuations, lockdowns, and first aid responses.
    • Emergency Drills: Conducting regular fire and evacuation drills to ensure that all students and staff are familiar with emergency procedures.
    • Emergency Equipment: Ensuring that all emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, alarms, and first aid kits, are regularly inspected and maintained.
  5. First Aid and Medical Support
    Centers must provide access to first aid and medical support for all students, staff, and visitors. This includes:

    • Trained First Aiders: Ensuring that designated staff members are trained in first aid and are available during operational hours.

    • Fire Drills: Conducting regular fire drills and ensuring that all students and staff are aware of evacuation routes and procedures.

  7. Hygiene and Sanitation
    Centers must maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene to prevent the spread of illnesses and infections. This includes:

    • Regular Cleaning: Ensuring that classrooms, restrooms, and common areas are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
    • Sanitation Supplies: Providing easy access to hand sanitizers, soap, and other hygiene products throughout the center.
    • Health Guidelines: Following local public health guidelines, especially in cases of contagious diseases or pandemics, to ensure the safety of the center’s population.
  8. Accident Reporting and Investigation
    All accidents, injuries, or health and safety incidents must be reported immediately and properly investigated. This includes:

    • Incident Reporting System: Centers must have an incident reporting system in place, ensuring that all accidents and near-miss incidents are documented.
    • Incident Investigation: Investigating the cause of the incident and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
    • Reporting to AIES: Centers must report serious incidents or hazards to AIES and any relevant local authorities as required by law.
  9. Mental Health and Wellbeing
    In addition to physical safety, centers must prioritize the mental health and well-being of students and staff. This includes:

    • Support Services: Providing access to mental health resources, counseling services, or referrals to professional support where needed.
    • Wellbeing Initiatives: Promoting mental health awareness and encouraging a supportive, inclusive environment where students and staff can seek help without stigma.
  10. Compliance with Local Laws and Regulations
    Centers must comply with all applicable local, national, and international health and safety laws and regulations. This includes:

  • Regularly reviewing and updating health and safety policies to reflect changes in regulations.
  • Cooperating with inspections and audits from local safety authorities and AIES.

Accountability and Compliance:

Centers that fail to comply with the Health and Safety Policy may be subject to corrective actions or penalties, including probation or the suspension of AIES-approved center status. Health and safety must be a top priority to ensure the well-being of all individuals on campus.
