Course Description

This is a project-based course designed to integrate and apply the public health knowledge and skills acquired throughout the Diploma in Public Health program. Focusing on a specific public health issue in Malawi, students will conduct in-depth research, engage with community stakeholders, and develop comprehensive interventions or policy recommendations. The course emphasizes advanced research techniques, program design, and evaluation. Students will present their findings through a formal report and oral presentation, demonstrating their ability to apply public health principles to real-world problems in the Malawi context.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Advanced Application of Public Health Principles: Students will demonstrate the ability to apply advanced public health concepts, methodologies, and tools to analyze and solve complex public health challenges in Malawi.
  • Conducting In-Depth Research and Evaluation: Gain expertise in conducting comprehensive research, including qualitative and quantitative data collection, evaluation of existing public health programs, and critical analysis of health data relevant to Malawi.
  • Designing Comprehensive Public Health Interventions or Policies: Learn to design, propose, and evaluate evidence-based public health interventions or policies that address key public health issues in Malawi, with a focus on sustainability and cultural relevance.
  • Effective Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Develop skills in effectively communicating research findings, policy proposals, or intervention strategies to diverse audiences, including public health professionals, policymakers, and community leaders, through a formal report and presentation.

This capstone project aims to prepare students for leadership roles in public health by equipping them with the necessary skills to conduct research, design impactful health interventions, and engage effectively with stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on addressing Malawi’s public health priorities.
