Clinical Manifestations and Treatment Options

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the clinical symptoms and progression of HIV/AIDS, as well as the treatment options available for managing the disease. This course covers the stages of HIV infection, common opportunistic infections, and the impact of HIV on the immune system. Students will learn about antiretroviral therapy (ART), the management of HIV-related complications, and emerging treatments. The course emphasizes the role of healthcare professionals in providing comprehensive care for individuals living with HIV, including monitoring disease progression and optimizing treatment regimens.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understanding the Clinical Progression of HIV: Students will develop a detailed understanding of the stages of HIV infection, from acute infection to AIDS, including the clinical manifestations and symptoms associated with each stage.
• Identifying Opportunistic Infections and Complications: Learn to identify and manage opportunistic infections and complications that arise as a result of HIV-related immunosuppression, including infections like tuberculosis, pneumonia, and Kaposi’s sarcoma.
• Exploring Antiretroviral Therapy (ART): Gain knowledge of antiretroviral therapy, including how different ART medications work, their effectiveness, and potential side effects, as well as the importance of adherence to treatment for managing HIV.
• Evaluating Emerging Treatment Options: Stay up-to-date with emerging treatment options and clinical trials, understanding the future of HIV treatment and the ongoing efforts to improve care and outcomes for individuals living with HIV.
